Sometimes I wake up and forget that I am living in the developing country of Rwanda. This morning brought me back to reality as we experienced 20 hours without electricity. Something interesting happens inside me when there is no power. Even after 5 years of living here a slight depression slips in as the reality that flipping a switch isn’t going to produce light from our living room bulb. It’s like I am riding a time machine back to a few years ago when we had no electricity.
Life is so different here especially for our students and their families. While I fret over no electricity they are experiencing life made new: new school, 4 new classrooms, new full day classes, new lunch program (where many of them are eating bread for the first time… Can you imagine that?!) and a new regimen of hearing about Jesus everyday through the Word of God- the Bible.
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17
Faith comes by hearing God’s Word. Lives are changing before our very eyes. We can see it! God is working through teachers, parents and his Word to birth new life!
