This morning at 4:30AM on my morning run on a narrow single track trail in the middle of nowhere I saw a 6 people and a running motorcycle taxi. Both odd because of the early hour and the terrain. As I approached the group 2 of them shielded me from the path as the motorcycle carefully navigated away while 2 others walked behind the motorcycle taxi. I looked down and saw what I thought was a gutted animal (I am not the sharpest guy at 4:30AM). Then it dawned on me that I had just missed the miracle of life. A baby had just been born! The mother had tried to make it to the clinic but her baby wanted to come NOW! Two of her friends carried the baby wrapped tightly in blankets. Mom must have been on the motorcycle (yes, I know it probably isn’t the best choice).
As it dawned on me what had just happened I felt like I was standing on holy ground! I paused and prayed. On a cool, damp and dark morning the miracle of life was born! I was reminded of Esther’s (photo above) birth that happened in a hospital with all the fancy gizmo’s. I thought about how this child will have a great story of his or her birth! And I am reminded of the Psalmist who says this of the God of creation:
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb” Psalm 139:13
