For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
We had sold everything; cars, house and possessions to move to Rwanda in 2010 thinking we were going to run an orphanage and start a school. Within a couple of months the wheels fell off. Things were not what we thought and the plan wasn’t “the plan”.
We cried out to God! How could you do this to us! We sold everything. Do you not want us in Rwanda? Through wailing and gnashing of teeth a quiet assurance kept coming to us. “Do not worry. Stay the course. I have plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” It was a VERY stressful few months but then slowly a plan B emerged that was much better than plan A.
We are now living our plan B at City of Joy Rwanda. Yes, we are the B squad. God brought us through all the turmoil for a better “future and a hope”. We have a school with 160 little students ages 3-6, 30 sewing students and have created a neighborhood ministry that is beginning to reap a harvest.
As I think back to 2010 I am grateful for all that happened. Grateful, but I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. God used that which was bad for his good. Sound like a familiar story? Joseph went through the same thing when his brothers sold him into slavery in the book of Genesis. God has a way of redeeming our life story and turning our messes into masterpieces. Are you stuck in a plan that you thought was your life destiny? Look for another plan to emerge because that is what God does! He loves the B squad!
